Digital Literacy Based on Community Collective Memory
Abstract
Literacy is an important aspect of 21st-century skills that must be possessed by the current generation. Literacy has a broad meaning and is not limited to just the ability to read and write. In the current era of digitalization, literacy is also experiencing development with the rise of digital literacy in society. Digital literacy is the user's knowledge and skills in utilizing digital media for communication. User skills in digital literacy include the ability to discover, carry out, evaluate, use, create, and utilize it wisely, intelligently, carefully, and precisely according to its use. As technology and digitalization develop increasingly rapidly, there is a decline in society's knowledge of local history in the surrounding environment, even though local history forms the cultural and historical identity of a nation. The erosion of knowledge of local history brings people into an identity crisis in recognizing their identity. The increasingly unlimited influence of culture and technology from outside begins to erase local history from society gradually. One of the forms of local history is the collective memory of the community. By exploring the collective memory of the history of the community with the use of digital technology, it is hoped that it can build community knowledge in recognizing their own identity. This research uses qualitative research with a literature study approach by collecting relevant sources from books, journals, and various research results. From the results of collecting this information, analysis, and synthesis are carried out to build a meaningful description of the discussion. Collective memory is a collection of local historical narratives built by the community itself. The implementation of digital literacy in the field of education can be done by developing digital teaching materials that highlight local history based on community collective memory contextually in the environment around students like the younger generation. Apart from that, the younger generation can be directly involved in documenting various collective memories of local history in their area and then disseminating them on social and digital media networks to the wider community.
