Publication Ethics for Publishing in ICoDSS Conference Proceeding.

This following statement clarifies ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the editor, the reviewer, and the publisher. This statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Ethics Policy:

Authors/Researchers:

  • Ensure originality, high scholarly standards, and proper referencing by meticulously preparing all submitted work.
  • Accurately represent all researchers involved in the study and provide appropriate acknowledgments, including disclosing funding sources if applicable.
  • Disclose the source of all data used in the research and describe the methods of acquisition transparently.
  • Certify that all data has been acquired in accordance with recognized ethical research practices and standards.
  • Read, agree to, and sign a license to publish form provided by the conference proceedings publisher.
  • Collaborate with editors and publishers by promptly responding to requests for additional information, source data, or proof of authorship.
  • Cooperate fully with any investigations initiated by reviewers, editors, or the publisher in case of ethical concerns.
  • Provide accurate and timely information for any necessary errata and maintain open communication with editors, publishers, and co-authors throughout the publication process.
  • Acknowledge that the Editorial Board has the final decision regarding the publication of submitted manuscripts.

Reviewers:

  • Review papers that fall within their area of expertise and provide thorough, constructive feedback to enhance the quality of the research.
  • Treat all submitted papers as confidential documents and refrain from discussing their content with others without authorization.
  • Conduct reviews promptly and report any suspected ethical misconduct observed in the work being reviewed.
  • Use respectful and professional language in their appraisals of the papers under review.
  • Commit to reviewing future versions of the manuscript and providing follow-up advice as necessary.
  • Seek guidance from the editor if clarification is needed during the review process or if there is a potential conflict of interest.
  • Maintain timely communication with both the publisher and editor throughout the review process.
  • Ensure fairness and impartiality in their reviews without showing favor or prejudice toward the authors.

Editors:

  • Ensure that only content of the highest quality is authorized for publication in the conference proceedings.
  • Oversee a thorough, objective, and blind peer review process for all original article submissions.
  • Clearly identify articles that will not undergo double-blind peer review, such as non-academic papers.
  • Maintain transparency throughout the review and publication process, while ensuring the anonymity of individuals when necessary.
  • Provide guidance and support to authors during the submission process as needed.
  • Grant authors the right to appeal any editorial decision made regarding their manuscript.
  • Remain vigilant for any third-party material included in submissions without sufficient permission.
  • Be prepared to publish errata when necessary and maintain open communication with both the publisher and the authors.
  • Ensure fairness and impartiality in all editorial decisions without showing favor or prejudice toward any submissions.

Administrators:

  • Log all submissions promptly upon receipt and acknowledge receipt to the lead author.
  • Verify the relevance of paper titles and abstracts to the conference and inform authors if necessary.
  • Ensure completeness of submission forms and request any missing information from authors.
  • Check submitted papers for adherence to formatting guidelines, proper referencing, word count, and page length.
  • Facilitate the peer review process by forwarding papers to members of the program committee and coordinating communication between authors and reviewers.
  • Treat all authors and reviewers fairly and impartially throughout the submission and review process.
  • Handle any ethics issues raised by reviewers, editors, or readers appropriately and ensure they are addressed in accordance with established procedures.

Publication Ethics:

  • Address allegations of research misconduct promptly and fairly, utilizing the best practices of relevant organizations such as COPE.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into allegations of research misconduct and take appropriate actions based on the findings.
  • Provide a clear procedure for handling complaints and appeals related to editorial decisions and publication ethics.
  • Ensure ethical oversight for research involving hazards, human or animal subjects, and require proper documentation of legal and ethical clearance.
  • Uphold reporting standards, originality, and proper acknowledgment of sources in all published research.
  • Prevent multiple, redundant, or concurrent publications and ensure transparency in authorship, conflicts of interest disclosure, and correction of errors.
  • Promote fairness, objectivity, and confidentiality in the peer review process to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

Editorial Quality Control:

  • Maintain editorial independence and transparency in all publication processes, avoiding conflicts of interest or external influence.
  • Ensure rigorous, fair, and effective peer review by providing clear guidelines to editors and reviewers.
  • Investigate and address suspected cases of manipulated or fraudulent peer review to uphold the integrity of the peer review process.
  • Handle appeals on editorial decisions in a fair and transparent manner, ensuring that new information relevant to the decision is considered.

Authorship:

  • Discourage gift authorship and ghost authorship, emphasizing the importance of accurately reflecting individual contributions to the research.
  • Support the integration of industry standards such as ORCID to increase transparency and accountability in authorship attribution.

Plagiarism:

  • Define plagiarism clearly and prohibit its occurrence in all submitted manuscripts.
  • Utilize plagiarism detection tools to identify suspected cases of plagiarism and implement appropriate actions, including rejection and retraction.

Duplicate and Redundant Publication:

  • Avoid duplicate or redundant publication unless justified with proper citation and approval from the original publication.
  • Encourage reporting of any suspicion of duplicate or redundant publication to ensure the integrity of the scholarly record.

Transparency:

  • Uphold COPE’s guidelines for transparency and best practices in scholarly publishing, promoting openness and accountability in all editorial and publication processes.

Conflicts of Interest:

  • Require authors to declare any potential conflicts of interest that may influence the presentation or publication of their work.
  • Handle allegations of misconduct promptly and fairly, ensuring proper investigation and resolution to maintain the integrity of the publication process.

Allegations of Misconduct:

  • Take all allegations of misconduct seriously and ensure they are investigated thoroughly and impartially.
  • Provide clear channels for reporting misconduct and ensure that all parties involved are treated fairly and respectfully throughout the process.
